A team combined from researchers from for example the University of Pisa and from sports teams like FC Barcelona have worked together in creating a big data-based algorithm that uses AI in predicting injuries in professional footballers. It tracks data from GPS devices that the players use during games and workouts, and from that data calculate the risk of muscle injuries and suggest prevention strategies.
